Man-made geosites
Man-made geosites have been formed in areas where the presence of humans has affected the natural environment for the use of natural resources or the creation of some large constructions. This results in elements of the geological structure and history of the area that were not initially apparent on the Earth’s surface.
On Lemnos, we find typical man-made geosites such as tufa building materials in quarrying sites, and the mining site of “Limnian Earth” which was used for its healing properties until the early twentieth century.
