{"id":3751,"date":"2021-07-01T13:16:18","date_gmt":"2021-07-01T10:16:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.lemnosgeomonuments.gr\/simeio\/%cf%84%cf%83%ce%b9%ce%bc%ce%b1%ce%bd%ce%b4%cf%81%ce%af%ce%b1\/"},"modified":"2022-08-22T16:19:27","modified_gmt":"2022-08-22T13:19:27","slug":"tsimandria","status":"publish","type":"simeio","link":"https:\/\/www.lemnosgeomonuments.gr\/en\/simeio\/tsimandria\/","title":{"rendered":"Tsimandria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The term arose from the shortening of the phrase &#8220;in the pens&#8221; referring to the animal pens, sheds and shepherding quarters that once existed there.<\/p>\n<p>Tsimandria has also had a substantial monastic influence since the late Byzantine period for many centuries.<\/p>\n<p>It was the first settlement on Lemnos to receive Greek soldiers who had arrived on the nearby shore of Vourlidia on October 8 1912, as well as the first place in which the Greek flag was flown.<\/p>\n<p>Many British troops and colonists who participated in the failed Gallipoli war were welcomed in 1915. In 1918-21, the locals also treated Russian refugees, \u00a0\u00a0the Russian soldiers of Bragel, and civilians who had sought temporary refuge on Lemnos.<\/p>\n<p>In 1935, the square&#8217;s\u00a0fountain and other fountains were installed via money on loan, cotton planting began in the area, and the&#8221;Kehagiades\u201d Association was formed, which is still active today and has made a significant contribution to the preservation of traditional music, songs, dances, and costumes on Lemnos.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The term arose from the shortening of the phrase &#8220;in the pens&#8221; referring to the animal pens, sheds and shepherding quarters that once existed there.
