Taxiarchis Moudrou
The Taxiarchis Moudrou Church is also known as the Temple of the Archangels. It is located in the city center and is regarded as the city’s second most important church after the Evangelistria.
It was constructed in 1835 and is three-aisled with an exonarthex, built later, while previous stages of the church date back to 1370, according to sources.
The church’s remarkable wooden iconostasis is supposed to be a duplicate of the iconostasis of the church of Smyrna, St. Fotini, and was crafted out of Mount Athos chestnut wood.
In the arch above the windows, there is a stone cross in the wall of the church’s stonework, as well as an ancient marble inscription.
