Weathering – Erosion geoforms

For millions of years, the persistent activity of water, air, and waves has sculpted the rocks of Lemnos island, from large tafoni, found in the volcanic rocks to the west, to spheroidal weathering formations on the sandstone rocks on the island’s northern and northeastern shores.

Erosion geoforms are areas in which the activity of chemical and physical weathering, as well as the erosion of Lemnos’ volcanic and sedimentary rocks, creates spectacular formations in the terrain. Remarkable shapes in the terrain intrigue visitors to explore and enjoy these impressive works of nature up close.
