The Church of St. Ioannis Prodromos of Kontia
The oldest church in this Lemnos settlement is St. Ioannis Prodromos of Kontia. It was built in the 16th century and is fortified with loopholes and cannons to withstand pirate invasions of the time.
The modest church’s old icons are an attraction for visitors who have been enjoying the church of St. Ioannis Prodromos of Kontias as an ecclesiastical museum since the 1970s.
The church is not the only old historic structure in the settlement; the parish church, dedicated to St. Dimitrios, was completed in 1867.
