Louri Beach Erosion Formations
Louri beach is located near of the southeastern coast of Lemnos, to the east of the town of Skandali and distinguished by an intense folding of 33 million-year-old sandstone rocks.
The layers of sandstone rocks curve and create a 90-degree angle along the Louri beach. This curve is caused due to the shear stresses caused by the activation of large faults.
In these sandstone layers can be found impressive honeycomb weathering shapes, formed by the wind, waves and sea spray.
Close by there are also sand dunes formed by the deposition of products from the erosion of sandstone rocks.
