Erosion Structures – Trigies Cape
In the sandstone cliffs of Trigies Cape, near the village of Atsiki in northern Lemnos, there are remarkable honeycomb and mushroom weathering formations.
The mushroom weathering forms are caused by the action of the wind and sea spray. The wind creates the disintegration phenomena, which erodes the less cohesive clay layers as opposed to the more cohesive sandy layers.
Typical honeycomb weathering structures have also been discovered in coastal formations.
