Cape Ropalo Coastal Tectonic Formations

The southwest end of Lemnos is defined by two capes, Tigani to the west and Ropalo to the east. The presence of geological faults that split the volcanic rocks and form the tectonic coastline terrain, determines the area’s geomorphology.

The eastern edge of Cape Ropalo, in particular, is produced by a sequence of faults oriented NNW-SSE, which impact the 18.2-19.3 million year old volcanic formations that define Cape Ropalo.
