Cape St. Sozon Fault Formations

Huge alternations between geological formations of sandstone and clay layers, typical of Lemnos’ molassic deposits, appear near the church of Agios Sozontas in the southeastern end of the island.

An impressive geological structure in the coastal zone impacts the area’s molassic formations. A system of normal faults cuts the geological formations almost entirely along the length of the beach, causing significant deformation and movement of the geological layers along the faulting planes.
