Fanaraki’s Sea Caves

Southwest of Moudros, the Cape of Aspros Kavos features pyroclastic deposits with considerable hydrothermal alteration at the beaches of “Mikro” and “Megalo Fanaraki”.

Mineralogical, chemical, and structural changes occurred in the surrounding strata as a result of the impact of hot solutions of metal-rich water flowing in the pyroclastic materials. These alterations have resulted in the appearance of reddish oxidations on the spectacular coastline cliffs.

Impressive coastal erosion structures appear in the area due to the action of sea waves, which erode the pyroclastic rocks. The results of this process are the coastal caves and arches that appear along Fanaraki beach.
