Vougiatzidika Ichnofossils
The sandstone layers of Lemnos’ molassic formations include a big variety of ichnofossils known as graphoglyptids, which often appear towards the base sandstone layers.
The ichnfossils discovered on Lemnos belong to the Crusiana, Zoophycos, Scolithos, and Nereites groups.
The fossils are characterized by the final group of Nereites, confirming that the Lemnos sandstone sediments formed in the marine environment as deposits of submerged debris in oxygen-rich circumstances.
